Jr Naturalists Seining the Little Brazos River

What

This program is designed to enhance appreciation for and understanding of plants and animals living in the Brazos Valley. Successful completion of eight hours of hands-on training culminates in a certificate.

Each session includes the following on-site activities:

  • Preserved specimen demonstration
  • Specimen touch table
  • Activity table (demonstrations, simulations, question/answer)
  • Kid’s craft table
  • Additional information for adults

Who

Participants

  • Brazos Valley area students, ages 7-9, accompanied by a parent

Trainers

  • Members, Brazos Valley Chapter, Texas Master Naturalists

All trainers have voluntarily undergone background security screening for working with children.

When

The four-week training program runs weekly each Tuesday evening in June.

Why

The program culminates in certification as a Junior Naturalist and entitles the certificate holder and his or her parents to participate in a half-day Saturday field trip led by a TMN volunteer.

The program is offered at no charge, but student participants must be accompanied by a parent.
