WHEP wins it All
Elm Fork Chapter member Susan Kilpatrick’s WHEP team has won the national competition held in New Mexico at the Valles Caldera National Preserve in late July. Making headline news in the Denton Record Chronicle on August 9 was Susan’s team of Karina Bickert, Sam Hatch, Elizabeth Raabe and Shelby Kilpatrick. The four claimed the championship and Raabe, Hatch and Kilpatrick earned high-point honors in individual categories.
The WHEP program (Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program) was approved as a project in September of 2007 by member Susan Kilpatrick. The program is a 4-H youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management to youths ages 8-19. The young naturalists use a scientific-based manual and beside wildlife habitat practices they learn teamwork, communication skills, critical thinking, confidence building, career guidance and outdoor activities.
Susan, who was assisted at nationals by Diana Hatch, is quoted in the DRC saying “A national win for those kids is huge.” There are very few 4-H contests at the national level, and they worked really hard for it”
The EFCTMN congratulates Susan and her team for their hard earned title and if any member is interested in volunteering with Susan, she can be contacted by e-mail: s_kilpatrick@verizon.net
Heartiest congratulations to all who were involved!!!
