AT – Rescue of Cold Stunned Turtle Training

November 5, 2014 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 pm

Advanced Training Class – Rescue of Cold-Stunned Sea Turtles

Presented by Lyndsey Howell, Research Fishery Biologist at NOAA

Lately during our South Texas winters, green sea turtles have been found cold stunned in our Galveston rarea waters. Cold-stunned turtles go into a comatose state in response to a sudden drop in temperature and are unable to swim and are vulnerable to predators, stranding and boat strikes. If they are not found and brought to a rehabilitation facility they will succumb due to exposure.

During our Advanced Training and lecture, Ms. Lyndsey Howell, will describe what happen to these cold-blooded marine reptiles in freezing cold temperatures and how we as volunteers can help with local efforts to rescue and document cold stunned green turtles.
