Bluestem Master Naturalists get their feet wet and their hands dirty while spending time in the field and in classrooms learning essential information and strategies to restore and conserve our indigenous species and their habitats. Through carefully planned training classes, local experts will cover interesting topics about our natural resources and lead hands-on field trips to local ecosystems. Upon completion of training, Texas Master Naturalist trainees may select from a wide variety of approved local projects for volunteer service.

All Initial Training (IT) is provided by the Bluestem Chapter and is included in the cost. Many opportunities for Advanced Training (AT) and volunteer hours are offered throughout the year. Training topics typically offered by the Bluestem Chapter include:

A few other details:
- Classes begin in August of each year and are offered on some weekday evenings and Saturdays.
- The initial fee is $100 which includes all training and the book: Texas Master Naturalist, Haggerty and Meuth.
- Participants must agree to a background check, a Media Waiver, a Confidentiality Waiver, and an Alternate Waiver (liability release).
- The re-certification fee is $20 annually.
We begin taking applications for our Fall Classes in May of each year. An application will be posted on this site or you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org The class is limited to 20 participants and first priority is given to residents of Grayson County. The registration fee for this program is $100.00, which includes a textbook, a mandatory background check, and Bluestem Master Naturalist membership for the current year. The deadline for applications and payments is July 1st.
An orientation for participants will be held during the first training session which usually begins the first week of August. Training Classes will be held on various Tuesday/Thursday evenings and Saturdays and will end in December.
