(AT) 3rd Saturday Nature Talks at the Heard

May 16, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

May 16 – Girdling of Invasive Shrubs and Trees

Cliff Tyllick is a Citizen Scientist with Texas Invasives

Like so many natural spaces in North Central Texas, the Heard Sanctuary is afflicted with invasive trees and shrubs. Perhaps the worst offender is Ligustrum lucidum, sometimes called glossy privet, which grows 45 feet tall and casts a dense shade. Cliff  will teach a simple technique to kill a privet for good. After a slide presentation indoors, we will go outside for some hands-on experience. This is a repeat of a workshop Cliff gave at the Texas Master Naturalists Annual Meeting, where the main feedback was, “Do we have to stop now?”

These programs are held on the third Saturday of each month and cover a variety of subjects. Third Saturday Nature Talks are open to the public and are free with paid general admission or Heard Museum Membership. Many of these programs will have an outside component. Please dress appropriately. These talks begin at 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise listed.
