(AT) 3rd Saturday Nature Talks at the Heard

August 15, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

August 15 –  Forests of the Heard Wildlife Sanctuary

Rick Travis – Master Naturalist of the Blackland Prairie Chapter

An extensive woodland profile survey was conducted at the Head Sanctuary over the course of 12 months in 2018 and 2019. Rick will share the results of this survey, providing insight into the types of woodlands and trees found at the Heard, reviewing the key tree species found in the survey, their natural history, benefits to wildlife, and ecological threats they may face.

Rick Travis Bio –

Rick owns a Bachelors’ Degree in Forest management and an MBA, both from Stephen F. Austin State University, and recently retired after 35 years in business. With his “retirement” Rick is fulfilling a long-deferred desire for involvement in the environmental sciences. He is a member of the City of Frisco’s Urban Forestry Board, an active member of the Blackland Prairie Master Naturalist Chapter, and a volunteer trail guide at several places, including the Heard Wildlife Sanctuary, the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA), and Frisco parks and nature trails.

These programs are held on the third Saturday of each month and cover a variety of subjects. Third Saturday Nature Talks are open to the public and are free with paid general admission or Heard Museum Membership. Many of these programs will have an outside component. Please dress appropriately. These talks begin at 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise listed.
