(AT) BPTMN Meeting
August 11, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Program: Blackland Prairie Chapter August 2020 Monthly Meeting
Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2020
Time: 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Naturalist Talk Speaker | Topic: Dave Powell | Restoring Prairie Habitat on Public Land
Description: Dave will share the history, successes, and pitfalls he’s experienced while leading the Wylie and McKinney prairie restoration projects, from making restoration proposals to city officials, maintaining a good relationship with municipal leadership, and best practices for restoring native prairie fauna on former pasture/farmland.
Dave has been a Trail Guide at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary since 2005, has been helping with several restoration and maintenance projects within the Heard sanctuary, and has been leading efforts to restore prairie habitat in Wylie since 2012, and in McKinney since 2016. Dave is a Member Emeritus of the Blackland Prairie Chapter of TXMN, having joined the chapter in 2007 and serving in many capacities over the years, including chapter President. Dave says he has learned a lot about nature and our native ecosystems over the years, and continues to still learn, while working and teaching at the same time.

The Texas Master Naturalist program develops local teams of “master volunteers” to provide educational and outreach services aimed at the better management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. The Texas Master Naturalist program is a partnership between the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and other local partners. We meet in the Science Resource Center at the end of the road – NOT the main museum building and parking lot which you’ll pass on the right. There may be occasional exceptions to the meeting place – check this calendar for details.
AT Approved (State requirement – 1 hour max)
