September 24, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

AT Online—Deep Dive: DFW Rocks! – September 24

 Program:  DFW Rocks!

Presenter:  Dick Zartler

Description:   DFW Rocks! Is about the Dallas Area’s underlying geology and addresses questions like what kinds of rocks are underfoot? How did they get there? What role did the Gulf of Mexico have in this geology? Why is there no oil production in Dallas County? Why do we have the Eastern Cross Timbers? How did Texas’s extinct volcanos influence our present construction standards? Free! Nice photos!

Dick has been a BPTMN member since 2007. He’s been a trail guide since 1996, guiding groups at The Holifield Science Center, the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, and also conducts free-lance trail walks with home schoolers and Boy and Girl Scouts. Dick has also been active in prairie restoration projects at the Wylie, Texas Civic Center and the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center including developing two carbon sequestration demonstration plots, another plot designed to attract native birds and a fourth to introduce students to the restoration process at the Center. Dick has an engineering degree and an MBA and retired from a career in the oil and gas industry.
