Description:   Think iNaturalist isn’t for you? Think again! New opportunities for Fall, 2020 offer something for everyone.  Whether you have used iNaturalist a little, a lot, or not at all, these exciting new opportunities have something for you! Better yet, we have activities perfect for volunteering-during-a-quarantine! Come hear how you can help. (and earn Volunteer Hours!) This Deep Dive will cover:

  • Fall BioBlitz, September 6–12, a friendly competition among the six TXMN chapters in the DFW area. (Sponsored by the one-and-only Sam Kieschnick!)
  • NEW: Zoom “Work Sessions” for identifications, a fun way to (virtually) get together with other Master Naturalists to accomplish valuable work
  • How to help curate Texas Nature Trackers projects
  • Learn about the Texas Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN), and what you can do to help
  • Other ways to contribute to iNaturalist (and earn VH) from the safety of your own home
  • Places in our area in need of biodiversity assessment / tracking
  • A brief overview of new TXMN state guidelines for earning VH through iNaturalist

Lisa Travis is a happily retired teacher, and member of the Blackland Prairie Chapter, Class of 2018. Under normal circumstances, she is a nature educator at the Heard Sanctuary, a trail guide at LLELA, and a Project WILD trainer/facilitator. Lisa is also an iNaturalist fanatic, with over 10,000 observations, and over 15,000 identifications made for others. She is a volunteer curator on the site and presents iNaturalist training sessions for the community as well as for fellow Master Naturalists. Lisa is interested in all-things nature, with a special focus on plants, and especially trees.
