The July 2022 Texas Water Webinar will focus on the effectiveness of Best Management Practices used during forestry operations help to protect soil and water quality.
Texas Waters Webinars are part of the certification process to become a Texas Waters Specialist. You do not need to be involved in the certification program to participate in these webinars.
Program: Forestry Best Management Practices and Their Effectiveness
Speaker: Donna Work, Biologist IV, Texas A&M Forest Service
Description: Forestry Best Management Practices help to protect soil and water quality during forestry operations. A 4-year study was conducted to determine if these practices, when implemented properly, were effective in protecting the quality of nearby streams. This study was done using water sampling and biological sampling techniques.
Donna Work graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Science. She has worked with the Texas A&M Forest Service in Lufkin since 1990, starting off in the Pest Control Section working in bark beetle and other forest insect pest research. She currently works with the Water Resources program, Forest Stewardship program, and with the endangered the red-cockaded woodpecker on State and private lands.
