AT – In Person – Girdling Workshop

January 28 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Hey BPTMN Members!

Carol Clark, Girdling Workshop Coordinator, has notified us that because of a few necessary cancellations, there are a couple spaces open in the Saturday January 28 Girdling Workshop with Cliff Tyllick.  This workshop is FREE.

Cliff will be teaching a tried and proven method of eradicating Privet and other invasive woody species from natural areas, using simple tools and no conventional herbicides. There will be an indoor presentation followed by an outdoor supervised practice session on real trees. This method is ideal for scout groups, Master Naturalist work crews, corporate volunteer groups, and situations where herbicides are not allowed.

You must register by emailing or calling Carol Clark to get a space at carol@r-d-clark.com or 972 390-2882.

Program:  Invasive Woody Plant Girdling Workshop, to teach and practice a practical Privet removal technique. We will provide the tools.

Description:  Participants in the FREE workshop will learn a safe and effective method for permanent removal of Privets and other woody invasive species. Cliff has spent many years using and perfecting his method and has shown that it is effective. His technique uses only cuts, soap, and rubbing alcohol, so is something scout, corporate and Master Naturalist volunteer groups can easily do with supervision. Once you have taken the workshop, you will be ready to apply the method, teach others, and supervise others on workdays.

The first part of the class will be indoors and will include lecture and video time followed by question-and-answer time and lunch.

The second part of the workshop will take place in the woods at Oak Point Park, where we will get supervised hands-on practice time with the tools and get to do some real tree girdling.
