AT IN-PERSON Prairie Seekers Toolbox Series Workshop

September 24 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Hi BPTMN Members!

The Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is hosting a Prairie Seekers Toolbox field training on Saturday, September 24th in Fort Worth.  This event will focus on plant identification skills and fire as a prairie management tool.  There is a cost of $35 to attend this training.  Lunch will be provided at no charge to participants.

Program:  Prairie Seekers Toolbox Series Workshop

Date:  Saturday, September 24, 2022

Time:  8:30 AM – 3:30 PM CDT

Location:  Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge – 9601 Fossil Ridge Road Fort Worth, TX 76135

Description:  Prairie Seekers is a citizen science program that trains volunteers how to assess prairie condition and helps NPAT identify conservation priorities.  The Prairie Seekers Toolbox is a series of one-day workshops held out in the field focusing on plant identification, prairie ecology, and plant communities.  Each event can be attended as a standalone, and participation in all events is not required.  The Prairie Seekers Toolbox program is underwritten in part by a generous grant from Dr. Marsha Stephens.

In addition to plant identification, the focus of the September 24th training session will be the use of prescribed burning and the resulting fire effects. The FWNC&R has a history of using fire as a management tool dating back to the 1970s. The park’s natural resource manager, Daniel Price, will join us for the day to share detailed information about lessons learned at two different sites at the Refuge.

Cost:  Registration is $35 for non-students and $20 for students.  Lunch is provided with registration.  All proceeds support the new North Texas Outreach & Stewardship Program.

Dress:  Routine dress code for activity in the field: Long-pants, boots/close-toed shoes; long-sleeved shirts are recommended.  Master Naturalists should wear their name badges.

Bring:  Drinking water, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant
