AT In-Person Third Saturday Education Programs at BPRC Brockdale Park

Hi Blackland Prairie Master Naturalists!

Looking for a fun, educational and free activity?  Visit Brockdale Park, at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, to participate in the Third Saturday Program, which will include a Birding for Beginners class and two scheduled prairie walks.  This is on ongoing program.

Program:  Third Saturday Educational Programs at Blackland Prairie Raptor Center Brockdale Park

Dates:  Saturday, September 17, October 15, November 19, December 17 . . . Ongoing into 2023

Time:  Park gates will open at 6:30AM and will close at noon.

Description: Head to Blackland Prairie Raptor Center on the third Saturday of the month for a leisure walk through our prairie, woods and by Lavon Lake to see what birds might be migrating through and find local residents. Birdwalk starts at 8am but come earlier to walk the prairie trails with our Master Naturalist guides. Bring your binoculars and water!  Two scheduled prairie walks will be offered at 9AM and 11AM led by BPTMN volunteers.  Entry to the park is free.  (NOTE: No Live Raptors)

Location/Directions/Parking:  1625 Brockdale Park Road, Lucas, TX 75002 – Diving Directions – Gate is on left at the 90 degree turn in road by our sign before you get to 1625 Brockdale Park Road. Turn left for access to Brockdale Park – Parking lot will be visible.

Dress:  Routine dress code for activity in the field: Long-pants, boots/close-toed shoes; long-sleeved shirts are recommended.  Master Naturalists should wear their name badges.

Bring:  Drinking water, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellant

Logging AT:  Members can log 1 hour for the bird walk and 1 hour for the prairie walk for a total of 2 hours AT if they attend both sessions.  Log as AT: BPTMN: Other Pre-Approved Training with “BPRC Saturday Program-Name of program” in description box.

NOTE:  The rule for logging AT for BPRC programs is that only one of each type of Saturday program may logged for AT per year.  In other words, members may log up to a total of 3 hours AT annually for attending one beginning birder walk, one prairie walk, and one raptor presentation.  Raptor presentations are offered on the first Saturday of the month.
