AT ONLINE The Native Prairies of Texas Our Prairies and Our Purpose

The Houston Chapter of the Native Prairie Association of Texas (HNPAT) invites you to join their monthly meeting online on Wednesday, January 26 at 7:00 PM (You may log in as early as 6:30 PM to work through any connection issues).

 

Program:  The Native Prairies of Texas – Our Prairies and Our Purpose

Speaker:  Pat Merkord

Description:  The Native Prairie Association of Texas holds 17 prairie easements in 17 different counties across the Texas landscape for a total of 3,177 acres and 8 different prairie types. NPAT owns outright 8 prairies for a total of 1,905 acres and 5 different prairie types. This totals 5, 082 acres of prairie being preserved by NPAT. Three additional acquisitions are in the works.

This is the first of a series on the prairies across Texas. Future meetings will include the Katy Prairie Conservancy and other agencies and organizations that are working together to conserve prairies.

Pat Merkord serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Native Prairies Association of Texas. She served as Executive Director until she retired in March 2018. Prior to that she served as Secretary and President of the Board. Pat owns a consulting business, Bluestem Environmental Consultants. Her previous business endeavors included wildlife management plans, wildlife and endangered species surveys, plant surveys, and watershed evaluations.
