(AT) Trinity Forks, NPSOT, Wild Orchids of Texas Talk

January 23 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Time: 6:30 for socializing and viewing of educational displays, 7:00 p.m. for start of meeting.
You may count this as 1 hour of AT.  Log your hour under AT:BPTMN:Other Pre Approved Training – (list the name of the class in the comments)

Place: The ASSC Ann Stuart Science Complex Science just to the north of Texas Street at Bell at the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.

Location:  Social time is in the lobby, and the program is in Room 259. There is an elevator to the second floor a short way down the hallway on the north side of the atrium.

January’s speaker will be Stephanie  Varnum. Her program will be Wild Orchids of Texas.
Fifty-four species of wild orchids grow in Texas and they are found in all ten of the natural regions of the state.  They range from moderately common to extremely rare and critically endangered.  This talk will give an overview of the orchids of Texas but focus on the seven non-photosynthetic, myco-heterotrophic orchids of the Hexalectris genus. These beautiful, uncommon orchids are not amenable to propagation so the only way to ensure their future is to protect their habitats.

Parking: On meeting nights we will be allowed to park in the visitors parking area, on the lane in front of the building (in designated parking spots), in the parking lots to the south of the building, or in the parking lot on the west side of Oakland Street, just south of the Human Resources building.
