(AT) ZOOM-Deep Dive -Invasive Herbaceous and Grassy Species in North Texas Session 2

July 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm

AT Online—Deep Dive: Invasive Herbaceous and Grassy Species in North Texas – July 23

Hello BPTMN Members –

Are you ready for another Deep Dive?  Last month we learned about invasive trees and vines from Rick Travis.  This month we are going to “dive” into the topic of invasive herbaceous and grassy species with Chase Brooke.

Program:  Invasive Herbaceous and Grassy Species in North Texas

Presenter:  Chase Brooke

Description:   North Texas faces a continuing challenge in managing invasive and noxious plant species. Given the critically threatened nature of the remaining Blackland Prairie ecosystem identifying and understanding these plants is critical for managing them. From Johnsongrass to scabiosa, in this Deep Dive session we will cover the worst of the worst, and the research-tested methods to control them in our prairies and restoration sites.

Chase T. Brooke is the Agriculture and Natural Resources County Extension Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Collin County. He works with local farmers, ranchers, and residents to implement best management practices in conservation, production, and land management. Twice a graduate of Texas A&M University, he received a B.S. in Spatial Science and an M.S. in Ecosystem Science and Management with a certificate in leadership study and development. He specializes in prescribed fire, brush control, and rangeland management, among others. Chase is a native to the DFW area, and has previously worked in forestry, research, and higher education before starting as a County Extension Agent in 2018. He has won awards for his extension work at the state and national level, as well as for his graduate work. Currently, his educational efforts focus on new landowner education, addressing production and resource conservation needs, and in building community partnerships.
