Postponed – (VH) Clymer Meadow Preserve Workday

March 18 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

This event has been postponed.  Please check the April calendar for updates.

Clymer Meadow Preserve

Time: 8:30 am-12:00 pm

Volunteer activity takes place at Clymer Meadow, Park Hill Prairie, Matthews Prairie, County Line Prairie and other remnant and restoration prairie sites in Collin and Hunt County.  We meet at The Nature Conservancy office.

Address: 4318 FM 1562 Celeste, Texas 75243.

There are monthly work dates typically scheduled on the 3rd Wednesday and 4th Thursday of each month.  There are also four quarterly dates that are set for Saturdays.  These scheduled work dates start at 8:30 am and finish at 12.  Please see 2020 schedule below.

There are ongoing projects and a variety of tasks – brush and invasive species removal.  Seed gathering, cleaning seeds, sorting take place year around and allow for indoor (Shed) activity on inclement weather days.  There are also non-scheduled events that are specialized in scope and will become available to members for participation.  Example: preparation for controlled, prescribed burns in restoration areas.

Important info

  • All volunteers will need to sign a waiver to participate.
  • Dress appropriately – Long pants, sturdy shoes, hats and gloves – bring mud boots if you have them.
  • Bring a water bottle and insect repellent.  All needed tools are provided by the conservancy.
  • Power equipment use must be approved in advance (Safety rules and proficiency) by a representative of the Nature Conservancy.  Operators must always use TNC equipment and wear safety gear that is provided by the Nature Conservancy.

Parking: Parking is limited and transportation to specific sites in the prairies is limited to TNC approved vehicles. Volunteers are encouraged to carpool to the location.

Travel tips –     If you leave from the Heard driving to Clymer;  the drive takes 45-50 minutes and is 32 miles.   One route is to take 75 – 121 – fm 545 to Clymer.  A second option is 380 – 78 – fm545.  The distance and time are similar.  Each scheduled workday Tom Shackelford will depart from the Heard – beyond the employee parking area at 7.30 am.   I have room for up to 4 passengers.  This is offered on 1st come basis.
