BPTMN member Angela Lewallen is leading a volunteer work group at LLELA that will embark on the task of removing Chinese privet on Saturday mornings beginning this Saturday February 4. If this sounds like a good time, contact Angela, and let her know you would like to join the party!
Event: Privet Clearing at LLELA along Stewart Creek
Date: Saturday, February 4, 2023
(and recurring 1st Saturdays thereafter)
Time: 9:00AM to 12:00PM
Description: We will be removing Chinese privet along Stewart Creek, parts of which play host to the annual Woods and Wetlands Trail run. Controlling invasive plants is as vital to LLELA’s restoration efforts as growing and planting native species.
Work Plan: We will meet at the LLELA office complex and carpool to the work location where we will cut and stack privet for future burning.

Meet at: the LLELA office complex, near the picnic tables. Tell the gate attendant you are at LLELA to volunteer.
Dress: Routine dress code for activity in the field: Long-pants, boots/close-toed shoes; long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Other attire appropriate for the weather. Master Naturalists should wear their name badges.
Bring: Drinking water, gloves, sunscreen, insect repellant

Parking: Parking for the offices, classrooms, visitor center and nursery complex is located at the BlackJack Trailhead, on the right-hand gravel drive just past the gate house.
Logging VH: Approved for VH for hours worked and travel time to be logged as LLELA: Garden & Wildscape Maintenance with “privet clearing” in the description box.
