The Brazos Valley Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists sits in the heart of Aggieland, spanning Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, and Robertson counties. Our area covers both post oak savannah and blackland prairie ecoregions, giving us a beautiful view no matter which county you happen to find your backyard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Chapter was founded in 2005 <\/strong>and works tirelessly with local communities to conserve the natural beauty of the Brazos Valley, educate the public on local, state, and global environments; act as citizen scientists, and make our little corner of Texas a better place to live for humans and nature alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We meet at 6:30pm on the 3rd Thursday of every month<\/strong> to discuss Chapter news, share opportunities, and enjoy a guest presentation. These meetings are held at the Brazos County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Office (4153 County Park Ct, Bryan, TX 77802) unless otherwise noted on our home page\/events calendar. All meetings are open to the general public<\/strong>, so please come join us if you are interested in seeing what we are all about! Every meeting is preceded by an informal half-hour social as well, if you would like to mingle in a less formal setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of volunteer service (VS) is to provide education and outreach dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas in our communities. Also, volunteer service provides members of the Brazos Valley Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists an opportunity to contribute to their local community. Volunteer service is a benefit in itself, providing the experienced Master Naturalist with tools to work in more advanced volunteer efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approval Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the Chapter Management and Operations Protocols<\/a>\u00a0(CMOP), one of our operating documents,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.8\u00a0 Criteria for Approval \u2013 The following are points for the chapter\u2019s VS coordinator and the committee to consider when approving a new project.\u00a0 The project opportunity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Represents the mission, goals, practices, and teachings of the TMN Program<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Addresses a pressing naturalist of natural resource management issue need<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Is well defined in terms of when it will be conducted, where, estimated time needed to complete or maintain per month, how many members would be needed, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Is located within the chapter\u2019s defined service area or ecological area. Consideration may be given to projects outside the chapter\u2019s service area, but still within the chapter\u2019s ecological zone if the project\u2019s service is compatible with the mission, goals, and training of the chapter and the TMN Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Allows the chapter to create visibility, identity, or recruitment opportunities for the chapter<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Describes how its impact on the community and our natural resources can be measured<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Identifies why\/how it is beneficial for the chapter and for the program to be associated with it<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Does not<\/strong> include fundraising for an organization other than the chapter or the state TMN Program [emphasis in the original]\n\n\n\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Does not<\/strong> include lobbying, which is not acceptable under the TMN mission [emphasis in the original]\n\n\n\n

Examples of unacceptable, better, and best Volunteer Service projects can be found on pages 16-18 of the CMOP<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Credits Granted<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Volunteer service hours are counted one hour for each hour of advanced training, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. Travel time may be included for VS hours, according to State Program and chapter guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
