Big Country Master Naturalist’s had a field trip Saturday morning for a Horned Lizard Survey on a private ranch. Click on image to enlarge!

- Horned Lizard
- I put my leatherman tool with the ruler beside the scat so you can see its size. The lizard eats red ants or “harvester ants” and you can see the body parts of the ants in the scat. Pretty interesting!
- When we find a lizard we measure it, weight it, record the location (gps), temperature and if it is male or female.

- Lizard half buried in the sandy dirt
- The lizard shoots blood from a gland in its eye as a defense. That is what you see on Susan Young’s arm while holding the lizard.
