Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network

A new VSP opportunity has been approved for our chapter! It is the weather citizen science projects hosted by the Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network, otherwise known as CoCoRaHS (pronounced as KO-ko-rozz) . CoCoRaHS is a grassroots volunteer network of backyard weather observers of all ages and backgrounds who work together by measuring and mapping precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in their local communities.  To join this project you will need to purchase one of their official rain gauges and you read it after a rain event and log the amount each morning or if there is no rain then that is logged as well. You also maintain the gauge, making sure that it is clean and free of debris daily. The data that you log into the website is used and analyzed by many different organizations such as the National Weather Service, meteorologists, hydrologists, emergency managers, etc. You can get more information by visiting their website at
