Per the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD),
“Help us restore the coastal prairie! This year will mark the 14th Annual Prairie Plant-a-thon at Sheldon Lake State Park. Every year, we focus on restoring what was once farmland back to native prairie habitat in efforts to re-establish the diverse wildlife it once had. Our target goal for this event is to get 2,000-3,000 native prairie plants back into the ground! Volunteers will be digging holes and planting potted plants in the prairie. We will provide all tools necessary.
Join us on Saturday, November 5th from 8:30am to 11:00am. There are 3 time slots available to the public. The fourth time slot, at 10am, is reserved for a special group. Do not register for that time slot.
Families, children above 8 years of age and large groups welcome. Make sure everyone in your party 13 years old and over registers separately. For those in your party under 13, email Sarah.Landuyt@tpwd.texas.gov to register. Those under 13 must bring with them a signed waiver.
