The mission of the program is to\u00a0<em>develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities for the State of Texas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The work of a Master Naturalist so important because\u2014not only are they individuals who love nature and voluntarily offer their time\u2014they are trained naturalists with specialized knowledge of different ecosystems, species, habitats, and environmental demands. Our skilled volunteers work with communities and organizations across the state to implement youth outreach programs, help operate parks, nature centers, natural areas, and lead local natural resource conservation efforts. Private landowners depend on the expertise of our volunteers to help them gain a broader scientific understanding of the ecology and management of their natural resources.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Master Naturalist\u2122 organization is sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpwd.state.tx.us\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.tpwd.state.tx.us\/\">Texas Parks and Wildlife Department<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/agrilifeextension.tamu.edu\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/agrilifeextension.tamu.edu\/\">Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension Service<\/a>. As of 2023, the TMN Program has trained over\u00a0<strong>17,000 certified volunteers<\/strong>, impacted more than\u00a0<strong>234,800 acres<\/strong>\u00a0of wildlife and native plant habitats, contributed more than\u00a0<strong>6.9 million hours of service<\/strong>,\u00a0and we have reached more than\u00a0<strong>7.1 million Texas residents<\/strong>\u00a0of all ages. The refuge&#8217;s purpose is the management, conservation, and protection of migratory birds and other fish and wildlife.
