Event Series Event Series: Native Bees of Texas

Native Bees of Texas

October 16, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

$45.00

Why are native bees such a buzz-worthy topic? These magnificent, hard-working insects are diverse, fascinating and vital to landscapes. In this 3-part series learn about bee ecosystems, morphology, behavior and society, nesting habits, diets and how to tell bees from wannabees (mimics). Taking place during the annual Texas Pollinator Bioblitz, this series is the perfect way to share your observations with your community through iNaturalist. We’ll talk conservation too!  Cost is $45.00 for all 3 days.

  • October 11, 3 – 5:30 p.m.: Online Lecture
The first part of this series will cover the biology of bees and the keys to identifying the many different species of native bees in Texas.
  • October 13, 1 – 3:30 p.m.: Online Lab
In the second part of this series, we’ll take an up-close look at various specimens of different native bees.
  • October 16, 1 – 2:30 p.m.:  In-person Tour at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Our series will conclude with a day in the gardens looking for bees and identifying the different species as they buzz about, enjoying the nectar of various native plants.
