Wasp ID: Identification and Diversity – AT

January 12, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The course will be an interactive combination of asynchronous lectures and synchronous workshops that will provide practical knowledge for the research and identification of wasps (the order Hymenoptera excluding sawflies, bees, and ants). Attendance will enable individuals to identify adult wasp specimens to the superfamily and family levels, collect and curate wasp specimens using current museum collections standards, and to communicate about wasp biodiversity in the context of systematics, the branch of science dealing with organismal classification based on evolutionary relationships. The course is aimed toward anyone with a basic understanding of insects, and will be designed to accommodate amateurs, students, and practical entomologists who would benefit from learning identification methods and taxonomy as they apply to wasps.

Course takes place on the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. Lectures are between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CST and lab is between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. CST.

Cost:   $60.00
Coordinator: Pennsylvania State University

NOTE: Only synchronous (LIVE) lectures with real time discussion (QUESTION AND ANSWER) will count for Advanced Training.
