This list of Seasonal Projects will be listed in the Active Projects list in time for your participation. Some projects might require some training time which would also count as VSH entered into the state Volunteer Management System Portal (VMS) database. Use the same reporting time category, as shown in the project information, for any training as you do for participation in the project.
The STATE FAIR of TEXAS September 24th through Sunday, October 17th, 2021. Volunteer at Texas Discovery Gardens acting as a docent in the Butterfly House, the Gardens, the Snake House or many other fun positions, and receive free parking, admission, and a second ticket if you work three shifts. This is a great way to earn a lot of volunteer hours and enjoy a day at the Fair. Yantis prairie classroom and restoration

Caddo Mounds Cultural Day
Will update when available (2021 event canceled due to COVID). Normally it is a Saturday in mid-April (9 am till 3 pm) Staff a booth with interactive activities and information about the chapter. Contact Lance Homeniuk at 903-987-3410 if you can serve part or all day. Lunch is provided by Caddo Mounds staff. You can bring a chair, drink, etc. for personal comfort. Monitor Bluebird Nesting Activity at Tyler Botanical Gardens
Monitor 17 bluebird nest boxes once per week and report findings (number of eggs/hatchlings) to nest watch mobile app. Clean nest boxes between hatchings and perform minor repairs to nest boxes. This activity will occur between February and September when the bluebirds are active with their 2 to 3 nesting cycles per year. Contact Paul Wick at 903-571-5557 for more details. Christmas Bird Counts
Accompany Tyler Audubon or North East Texas Ornithology Society birders for one-day intensive surveys in local areas. Alternatively, you may stay home and record birds that visit your feeders then call in the data. December – January every year! Freshwater Fisheries Outdoor Expo
In Athens at the fish hatchery in the fall – date to be determined. We will need a couple or three people to set up an interactive display or hand-son activity for youth and adults. Theme – encouraging folks to get outside. In addition, we get to network, meet new people and tell them about TMN, maybe even recruit a little.
