STEAM night at Brenham ISD
April 25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Volunteer Opportunity: VMS Category: BISD Outdoor Education
TMN-GLC will have two stations at the Brenham school district STEAM (highlighting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) night on Thursday April 25, 2019. Kids and families from the school district will be visiting lots of different stations on that night and will be moving quickly.
One station will be a composting activity outside near the butterfly garden. Several volunteers will be needed to help the kids peel carrots & potatoes and add other materials to their buckets to contribute to the compost bin in the outdoor area. We will have handouts about composting. The kids love the action and the adults appreciate learning about composting in their own home. We could also use contributions of “materials” like grass cuttings, dried leaves and other brown materials, shredded paper (regular paper and/or newspaper), coffee grounds (donated from your favorite coffee house), etc. Coordinate with Carol regarding supplies.
Another station will be our chapter Scat & Tracks display set up somewhere inside the school. Several volunteers will be needed to help set up the display and then interact with kids and families to help them look at the replicas and we have a handout for them showing common Texas mammals and their tracks with little matching game on the back. We will probably set up our trifold display at that station too so we can hand out brochures. Again, kids and families will be moving quickly so we will only have their attention briefly.
Contact Carol Paulson if you can volunteer at either station at email@example.com.
