Typically we have several TMN volunteers helping TPWD staff and WMA members at the various stations. We would love any help from volunteers for this event this fall! The stations will be the same as in the past: .22 pistol, .22 rifle, .223 rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, archery, safety trail, and skins\/skulls\/tracks. The Attwater Prairie Chicken Project is in conjunction with the Coastal Prairie Chapter. The effort is led by Jean Stipelcovich from the Coastal Prairie chapter and Jaide Cooper, the wildlife specialist for the reserve, and Krystyna Westfield is the project lead for the Gideon Lincecum chapter.<\/p>\n

Bring long sleeves, pants, protective shoes, and leather gloves if you have them (if not we got em!), and hand tools. The group will meet in front of the visitor\u2019s center at 8AM, and then we will usually next head into the conference room inside for a few minutes to get the instructions for the day\u2019s tasks.<\/p>\n

If you plan to be a regular participant in this project, please join the #team-attwater Slack Channel for the latest updates. Jaide is a member of the Team-Attwater Slack channel and she posts the planned activity a few days ahead of our Friday work mornings.<\/p>\n

Past projects include editing, organizing, constructing pens, observing, planting, collecting, interpreting, and more. There is always something meaningful and important to do and there is something for everyone.<\/p>\n

Attwater is a jewel of a refuge that is home to one of the most endangered species on earth. We hope to see you there. Our work day is the second Friday of the month from February through December, from 9-11 and we move the time to 8-10 when it starts getting hot.<\/p>\n

We have regular workdays for the\u00a03rd Fridays<\/strong>\u00a0of the month, beginning at 9:00 a.m. We will probably be done by 11:30.<\/p>\n

For this month<\/u><\/strong>, we are changing the standing 3rd<\/sup> Friday of the month Monument Hill workday schedule to Monday, October 12, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0 (address 414 State Loop 92, La Grange Texas 78945).\u00a0 We probably will be done by noon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the recent rains, plants are growing and the trails need clearing for the upcoming Archeology Day on the 15th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The focus is on trail clearing.\u00a0 We also may have some follow-up work on the erosion area by a bridge.\u00a0 The area is wooded, and we know snakes are still out, so we want to take precautions!<\/p>\n

Please bring tools (lobbers, shovels, small saws and light-weight weed-eater if you have one); protective items (boots, heavy duty gloves as well as standard garden gloves, hat, sunscreen, repellant), and of course WATER!!<\/p>\n

Join us every second Wednesday of the month in supporting Texas Native Seeds (TNS) at the 3H Ranch evaluation trials. Volunteers will assist with maintaining native seed evaluation plots through light hoe work to keep trials clean and productive (approximately one hour, depending on rainfall). In addition, volunteers may help collect ripe native plant seed to support regional variety development efforts.<\/p>\n
