The training is approved for AT, and leading Refuge hikes qualifies for volunteer service. After training you will be expected to support at least two hikes per season. You can start out as a sweep on hikes until you feel comfortable leading. Training will cover topics such as best practices for leading a hike, basic first aid, geology, flora and fauna of the refuge, history of the refuge, etc. Write ups in support of trail talking point are provided. Good Water Master Naturalists Announce \u201cFrom Balconies to Backyards\u201d Nature Event<\/div>\n

Georgetown, TX – The Good Water Master Naturalist Chapter is excited to invite the public to our upcoming nature and conservation event, \u201cFrom Balconies to Backyards 2026: Taking Care of What You Have\u201d on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The event features keynote speaker John Hart Asher who serves as host of the award winning and nationally syndicated PBS show, Central Texas Gardener.<\/div>\n

Attendees have the opportunity to participate in person or virtually.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cFrom Balconies to Backyards\u201d is at the Georgetown Annex building located at 100 Wilco Way, Georgetown, TX 78626, from 1:00 – 7:00 pm. Registration is open to all. The main theme is working with the space you have. Asher\u2019s presentation is titled, \u201cBe the Bison.\u201d He will speak about his experience with ecological restoration and discuss pocket prairies as an example of a way that central Texans (and beyond) can drastically increase biodiversity to the benefit of all. Components of the pocket prairie strategy can be applied at multiple scales (think balcony, flower bed, or ranch) and he\u2019ll happily answer any questions for folks who want to help Be the Bison.<\/div>\n

The ticket price for In-Person attendance is $35 per person and includes a box dinner. Virtual tickets are $20 per person.<\/div>\n
