Learn all about maintaining a beautiful garden year-round.

Event Description:
It takes a lot of effort and skill to keep the gardens of the Wildflower Center looking beautiful year-round. Tune in on select Tuesdays during this 4-part series as Wildflower Center horticulturist, Leslie Uppinghouse, shares that week’s garden maintenance during a busy Texas fall. Get the dirt on the busiest season for garden maintenance and learn about our staff’s favorite tools and techniques.

Seasoned gardeners and beginners alike are sure to grow their knowledge with this behind-the-scenes 4-part series and enjoy seeing what’s coming up at the Center. Each class will provide the opportunity for questions.

This 4-part series will take place partially online and partially in person. Classes listed as in person will only take place at the Wildflower Center and will not include a Zoom link. Classes listed as online will only take place via Zoom and will not include an in-person element. See the class schedule for more details.

September 28 – IN PERSON- SOLD OUT
Cutting Back: Join Leslie in the gardens during our first class of the season for some hands-on experience cutting back spent perennials and pulling annuals. We’ll also talk about collecting, storing and cleaning seeds as well as putting together our list for which seeds and plants to purchase for the spring.

October 12 – ONLINE
Prepping Beds: Tune in this week to talk about prepping garden beds for the spring. Once the summer has ended it’s important to make sure that you are harvesting your compost and amending your beds for fall and spring planting. We’ll also take a look at irrigation systems as well as hardscaping in the garden.

Cost: $15

October 26 – IN PERSON-SOLD OUT
Plant and Prune: Join Leslie once again in the gardens to plant and prune perennials, trees, shrubs and annual seeds for spring. Participants might even have the opportunity to plant a few bluebonnets!

November 9 – ONLINE
It’s the Final Cut Back: Closeout this fall series with the best techniques for cutting back vines, hardy perennials and getting one last tree trim in before winter begins. The time to winterize your garden is now and Leslie is here to help.

Cost: $15
