Event Summary:
Cascading failures during Snowmageddon reflect the interrelationship between water and energy.

Event Description:
Most of us remember the February winter storm that left many of us in the dark with little to no running water. The reason for these cascading failures is the interrelationship between water and energy. Despite the interdependence of power and water, planning in the water and energy sectors occur almost without consultation of the other even though, in many cities, the energy provider is the largest water customer and the water provider uses the most energy. Local and state planning is needed to ensure we are ready for the next weather challenge.
