Event Summary:
Join us as we explore the first century of the Texas Highway Department, today known as TxDOT – archeology, geology, history.

Event Description:
Nearly 80,000 miles of roads connect drivers across Texas today, more than any other state. But when the state legislature founded the Texas Highway Department in 1917, paved roads were few and far between. Over the decades, the highway department planned, designed, and built thousands of safe roads, highways, and interstates for growing numbers of motorists. How did they do it?

Join us as we explore the first century of the Texas Highway Department, today known as TxDOT. Authors Carol Dawson and Roger Allen Polson, photo editor Geoff Appold, and TxDOT librarian Anne Cook will share the stories and images they discovered while researching the book, Miles and Miles of Texas: 100 Years of the Texas Highway Department.
