Addresses concerns, planning, resources needed, maintenance, documentation, and funding for a wildlife viewing blind
Event Description:
There are many facets to creating, having, maintaining, and enjoying a wildlife/bird viewing blind. After facing the planning, construction, and maintenance of both an older and a new blind, John Prentice hopes to share what he has learned about what makes a blind work for those who will enjoy time spent there watching and for those who will have the responsibility of keeping blinds going and productive. John will share concerns, planning, resources needed, maintenance, documentation, and funding for a wildlife viewing blind in hopes of helping anyone thinking about it to be more successful.
SAAS Monthly Meeting
About John Prentice: John retired from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Fisheries Research and Management as a fisheries research biologist after 37 years of service. His work involved research into improving the management of aquatic resources in and outside Texas to benefit both the resource and the human experience of enjoying that resource. Concerns covered a wide set of facets in nature such as environmental concerns, better fishery management practices, better production methods in fish hatcheries, improved angler enjoyment, and improved data collection and evaluation.
John has always enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, and the adventure of nature. He pursues camping, travel, photography, fishing, scuba diving, and birding. Although he and his wife Linda have traveled mostly throughout the U.S., they have visited 14 countries enjoying the wildlife and cultures they find. John and Linda are currently involved with managing and maintaining the wildlife viewing blinds at Guadalupe River State Park.
