The Kerr County Courthouse Pollinator group (KR-06-A) could use some help for a work event on the Wednesday morning September 4. Can you help us with a request to the Chapter for extra help?
For background – Our group went before the County Commissioners in June and got permission to expand the pollinator garden we already have going there. This was written up in the Kerrville Daily Times – see below. This is an exciting project but is a pretty big reach for us as we are only 4 people.
There is some initial work that needs to be done to get ready to plant the new areas in the Fall – basically removing gravel and heavy black landscaping plastic from the area as well as taking out some Nandina bushes. We would LOVE to get as many extra hands as possible for a big push to get that done. We would like to ask for help for all or part of a morning window from around 8:00 – 11:00. We would provide refreshments to any who could lend a hand. We do not have tools on site, so we would welcome people bringing their own shovel and clippers. We would ask that people let me know if they can come so that we can plan, but also would welcome people who show up at the last minute.
This demonstration garden is a great outreach site. It sits right at the East entrance to the Courthouse – which seems to be the entrance that people most often use to take care of their County business. So it is a great opportunity to show off native pollinator plants to people who we might not otherwise be exposed to this kind of thing.
