6\/6\/2026 From Mallory Lancaster: Hello friends! <\/span>The time has come to start preparing for the\u00a011th Annual Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival<\/a>\u00a0on October 3rd from 9\u20132pm at Brackenridge Park!\u00a0<\/span>This year will be filled with even more interactive activations, entertainment, costumes, creativity, and wonder. We would love to invite you to apply to volunteer for this special day by filling out this\u00a0sign up form<\/a>. There are a variety of ways to get involved, from helping bring educational installations to life, supporting our festival team and community partners, assisting with setup and decorating, helping with breakdown, and welcoming and engaging festival attendees throughout the day. <\/span>We have updated our volunteer application to help us better match volunteers with roles that align with your interests, experience, and capacity. If you have volunteered with the festival or one of our events before, be sure to let us know! <\/span>Over the past year, we have gained an even deeper appreciation for what it means to create a truly community-supported event. Simply put, this event would not be possible without volunteers. <\/span>Whether this will be your first year joining us or you have been part of the festival for years, thank you. 6\/1\/2026\u00a0Hello every one, it\u2019s time for the last on the summer bank clearing work party of the summer on 6\/11\/2027,\u00a0 the park should have the lift to clear over hanging branches in the areas we have already cleared. So, most of the work will be getting the branches ready and on to the trailer to haul off. I should be there by 8:30, so come as early as you want to beat the heat.<\/h4>\r\n

Outreach Trunks<\/u><\/h4>\n

Outreach is a primary mission of the Texas Master Naturalist program.\u00a0 For the Lindheimer chapter, this is primarily through supporting community festivals and other events that are nature oriented.\u00a0 These primarily take place in March \u2013 April and September \u2013 October.\u00a0 To that end, the chapter has developed a series of educational \u201ctrunks\u201d (plastic tubs) that are self-contained subject matter and easy to transport.\u00a0 At this time, the chapter maintains trunks encompassing three well-developed subjects (1-3 below) and two that have been partially developed (4-5).\u00a0 The three primary trunks are equipped with a binder describing the contents and activities.\u00a0 There are also books and other visual aids contained within.<\/h4>\n

The current Outreach Committee consists of Debbie Kyrouac along with two others who are managing the newly added Youth Outreach program.\u00a0 The new Youth Outreach is taking place at Westside Community Center and consists of monthly nature-themed programs after school.<\/h4>\n

Trunk topics to date:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. \n

    Skins and Skulls \u2013 There are two bins with an assortment of local mammal pelts and skulls. The bins also include some track molds, artificial scat types, an antler and horn.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    Birds and Bird Beaks \u2013 There are two bins each having a specific focus. The birds bin has assorted real and artificial bird eggs, assorted bird feathers, Audubon plush birds that sing their song, a bird bone and mammal bone to compare, and an owl pellet dissection guide.\u00a0 The bird beak bin is designed to be an activity about how bird beaks are like tools.\u00a0 There are real and artificial skulls as well as the tools and supplies for the activity.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n

    Butterflies, Insects, Pollinators \u2013 This topic has expanded into three bins. The original butterfly trunk now includes many other insect specimens as well.\u00a0 There is a binder with butterfly and moth specimens.\u00a0 The trunk also has a container with small insect viewing boxes and separate display boxes for larger specimens.\u00a0 A separate bin contains a game about monarch migration.\u00a0 The newest bin is focused on pollinators.\u00a0 It includes artificial examples of the major types of pollinators and a pollinator game.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n

    Geology \u2013 This consists of poster displays on local geology (no bin).<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n
  5. \n

    Native Plants \u2013 There is one bin with two visual activities. One is a game matching plants to seeds.\u00a0 The other is a flip book about the parts of plants we eat.\u00a0 There are also several display boxes with ball moss, poison ivy and oak galls.\u00a0 The bin also has a selection of vials and bottles that can be used to display fresh plant material.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Expand trunk materials and topics.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n
    2. \n

      Further expand the Outreach committee to include individuals running separate festivals and events; a list of which can be supplied upon request. The event lead would be tasked with setting up the booth at the event and being familiar with the trunk activity(ies).

      Pollinators for Texas<\/h3>\n

      6\/22\/2025: From Susan Bogle,<\/strong> \u201cMadrone Trail Pollinator Garden<\/b>\u201d workdays are suspended for the summer.\u00a0 We will probably go back to regular workdays in late September, when the temperatures have moderated.\u00a0 However, there might be a special project or two pop up during this summer break, so stay on the lookout for specific notifications.<\/h4>\n

      We are excited to highlight our participation in the Pollinators for Texas project! Our chapter was selected to receive $3,000 to help support native pollinators in our area! Our project, Madrone Trail Pollinator Garden(MTPG), aims to make a lasting impact on pollinator conservation. A big thank you to H-E-B for their generous support in this initiative and collaboration with the Texas Master Naturalist Program. Together, we\u2019re working to safeguard and enhance native pollinator populations across Texas! The time has come to start preparing for the 11th Annual Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival<\/a>\u00a0on October 3rd from 9\u20132pm at Brackenridge Park!\u00a0This year will be filled with even more interactive activations, entertainment, costumes, creativity, and wonder. We would love to invite you to apply to volunteer for this special day by filling out this\u00a0sign up form<\/a>. There are a variety of ways to get involved, from helping bring educational installations to life, supporting our festival team and community partners, assisting with setup and decorating, helping with breakdown, and welcoming and engaging festival attendees throughout the day. We have updated our volunteer application to help us better match volunteers with roles that align with your interests, experience, and capacity. If you have volunteered with the festival or one of our events before, be sure to let us know! Over the past year, we have gained an even deeper appreciation for what it means to create a truly community-supported event. Simply put, this event would not be possible without volunteers.       Lindheimer Chapter trains a group of twenty to thirty Master Naturalists annually.\u00a0 The group attends classes monthly for twelve months, goes on field trips, completes a class project, and selects from more than seventy projects and opportunities to volunteer in their preferred areas of interest:\u00a0 birding, wildlife, geology, native plant habitats, aquatic life, butterflies, bats, among many others; many educational and fun events for adults and youth; festivals and celebrations to provide outreach.\u00a0 There\u2019s also \u201cdirt work\u201d: trail building, wildlife and bird habitat maintenance and invasive species management and eradication \u2013 hundreds of opportunities for you to make a difference in preserving our Hill Country.<\/h4>\n

      \"\"<\/a>Classes are based on the\u00a0Texas Master Naturalist<\/em><\/strong> curriculum, accompanied by dynamic expert speakers, and the curriculum is hands-on during interesting & informative field trips.\u00a0<\/h4>\n
