CANCELLED-TPWD Texas Nature Trackers/iNaturalist Bioblitz-CANCELLED

April 4 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

This Bioblitz on Saturday morning, April 4, will be led by Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist, Craig Hensley, as a followup to training received Friday night, April 3. We will meet at 8 a.m. at the trailhead to the US Army Corps of Engineers Twin Dikes Park Nature Trail. There is another privately owned park next door, also called Twin Dikes park, so to prevent confusion, we have created a place and project on iNaturalist to show the correct location. From 8 to 10 a.m., we will conduct the bioblitz. Craig and Master Naturalist volunteers will be available to assist with learning to use the iNaturalist app during this time. We will focus on the nature trail, which has a .6 mile loop through Longleaf Pines. From the furtherest point on the loop, you can continue .4 miles to the shoreline. From there, you can either follow the shoreline to a parking lot for the boat launch, or backtrack on the trail. Then we will gather from 10 – 11 a.m. for a review of the bioblitz and wrap up. The skills we learn will help us conduct bioblitzes for future projects designed to help TPWD with the Texas Nature Trackers project, as well as iNaturalist skills to identify and preserve our own observations in nature for future reference.
