Big Thicket Canoe Cleanup

Below is information on a service opportunity to help the Big Thicket and have some fun paddling, too! The Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust has scheduled a one-mile canoe cleanup of trash along the banks of Pine Island Bayou for Saturday, July 20.    Longleaf Ridge Master Naturalist volunteers who want to participate in this, coordinate directly with them. Guided Canoe Trip – Big Thicket

Big Thicket rangers will lead a guided canoe trip targeting novice and casual paddlers. They will provide canoes, personal flotation devices and paddles. Participants should bring water, sunscreen, a snack, a hat, and water shoes. Trip locations vary and space is limited, so call their visitor center at 409-951-6700 to register and find the trip location. This event is FREE but Registration is Required. Attendance will count towards Advanced Training.

Wildflower Walk

Chapman's Fringed Orchid

Explore the beautiful Watson Preserve on a wildflower walk led by  Joe Liggio.  The rare Chapman's orchids should be blooming at that time. Mr. Liggio is the author of "Wild Orchids of Texas." Try to arrive by 9:00 -- the walk will start by  9:30 am.  If you are late, just catch up with the group (It's only 10 acres). Agrilife Deer Expo 2019

The Agrilife Extension office will host a Deer Expo August 30, 2019 to be held in Kirbyville at the Gateway Tabernacle. Speakers for the event will be Randall Kroll, a biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife, Stephen Schlein, Mossy Oak Properties Division Manager, and Morgan Inman and Justin Eddins, "Lone Star Law" featured game wardens.
