Can you explain them in another way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is unfortunately&nbsp;one that we commonly get, and it is a bit confusing for your first year, but it gets easier after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two pieces that <strong>can <\/strong>happen in your first year.&nbsp; You can choose to do one&nbsp;or both pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>To be able to call yourself&nbsp;a Texas Master Naturalist<\/strong> and get your dragonfly pin (the first pin for all Texas Master Naturalists):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You must complete 40 hours of basic training (Anna and I have gone a little crazy, and it looks like there will be between 60-70 hours available to choose from)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must complete 40 hours of volunteer work in Bastrop or Caldwell counties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must complete 8 hours of advanced training (this can be in person or through approved online webinars)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All hours must be completed by the end of 2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To get the year pin<\/strong> &#8211; and some people will call it doubling (you can only get these pins for the one year, and then they are retired, 2026 will be the year of the Bobcat)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You must complete an additional 40 hours of volunteer work in Bastrop or Caldwell counties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must complete an additional 8 hours of advanced training (this can be in person or through approved online webinars)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All hours must be completed by the end of 2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is the requirement to stay a certified master naturalist each year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to put this in context.&nbsp; Out of our class of 25 in 2025 we only had 2 people double certify by graduation.&nbsp; Only about half of us will likely double certify by the end of the year.&nbsp; People will wear their pins like flair on their lanyards to all the official events.&nbsp; Some people really want the pins, some don&#8217;t, but we will work with each of you to determine what makes the most sense for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I have questions, but I want to talk face-to-face. When will the FAQ sessions be and where?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to some additional folks in Smithville potentially joining, we will now be having sessions in Bastrop, Lockhart, and Smithville.&nbsp; These will be staggered between the first and the twelfth&nbsp;of December.&nbsp; We are lining up venues right now and should have more details shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why do you request half of the payment at the time of the application?&nbsp; Will I receive a full refund if I don&#8217;t make it into the class?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two pieces for this one.&nbsp; The first piece is that there are supplies that need to be purchased for the class around class activities, field trips, and room rentals that need a longer lead time.&nbsp; We run the program as a $0 budget line item (in other words, we only charge what it costs us to run the class) the half piece helps ensure that we can have these items in place for the best overall experience for the class.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second piece is that we want to make sure that we are planning for the number of students that we will have and the students are actually invested in taking the class.&nbsp; In the past, people have applied and then dropped the class after we have paid for&nbsp;non-refundable&nbsp;materials.&nbsp; We want to make sure that folks really want to be part of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are not selected for the program, we will give you a <strong>full refund<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When and where are classes happening? Texas Master Naturalist Lost Pines Chapter creates a space that will benefit both pollinators and our community<\/h3><p class=\"uagb-desc-text\">In partnership with <a Texas Our Future<\/a>, we aim to create a 3-acre native prairie within Bob Bryant Park that serves as a pollinator habitat, an educational resource, and a space for community enjoyment in Bastrop, Texas. <br><br>The prairie will highlight various methods of prairie restoration (including soil solarization, sheet mulching, herbicide) to offer practical examples of techniques that can restore or enhance native landscapes.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-eded781a\" id=\"July2025\"><div class=\"uagb-separator\"><\/div><h3 hand pull invasive species out by the roots. Both Lost Pines Texas Master Naturalists and Bastrop County Master Gardeners were on hand to help with plant identification and information. The program requirements consist of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To Become a Master Naturalist (and receive your Master Naturalist Dragon Fly pin)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completion of a minimum of 40 of the approximately 60 hours of in-person \u201cBasic Training\u201d offered between January 17, 2026 and June 06, 2026. Classes are held on selected Monday evenings (typically 6-9pm) and Saturdays (typically 9am-noon). A schedule of classes and field trips that count towards the 40-hour Basic Training requirement will be posted on our website as soon as it is finalized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>40 hours of approved Master Naturalist volunteer service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>8 hours of advanced training in an area of your choosing &#8211; think of it as your specialty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Passing a background check completed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NOTE: The results of the background check are held confidentially by TPWD. The chapter will only see a record of an individual passing or not passing the check<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To Certify for Subsequent Years &#8211; And if you would like an animal pin for 2026 (The Bobcat)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In addition to the above requirements, to become a 2026 Certified Master Naturalist (also known as a Double Certification), you must complete an additional 40 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of Advanced Training in a subject of your choosing by the end of 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure
