December 15, 2019

Approved POMN Volunteer Opportunity. Log your hours to, “FR: Bird Populations” with “NAS Bird Count, POMN” in the “Describe Your Service” box.

Welcome Birders to the 2019 Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Everyone is welcome to attend for however long they are able, even if not pre-registered. Experience levels range from novice to expert. 2019 marks the 120th Audubon Christmas Bird Count, making it the longest running citizen science project. This is a great opportunity to learn some awesome birding skills.

Our former CBC leader Seth created the link below for us last year to a map detailing 4 of the areas with several areas of interest. If you have the Google maps application on your smart phone, you can use this map in the field to plan routes, check your areas, and look for areas of specific interest:

For those who would like to get an early start, Bob and I will be leaving promptly at 7:30 am from the Bosque Nature Center to count in both directions on the trailJoin us there if you wish. Please do not hesitate to call me. (214)957-2838

For those who want to sleep in a little, we will meet at 9:00 am in the Ranger College parking lot at Highway 8 (Lingleville Road) and Southwest Loop. The location is marked on the Google MyMaps under “Ranger College- Main Meeting Location.” Please be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. We will not be far from town, so you can either pack a lunch or pick something up. Make sure to check the forecast and dress appropriately. There will be walking involved, so please wear appropriate shoes. Also, make sure to bring binoculars, scopes if you have them and field guides!

We will all rendezvous at the Purple Goat at 5:00 pm to tally our results and have dinner. The location is marked on the Google MyMaps under “The Purple Goat- Dinner Meeting.” If you participate in the count but are unable to meet for dinner, please make sure to send your count sheet with someone who is coming or make arrangements with me to collect your count sheet.

Thank you all so much for your interest and participation. Please email me or call me with any change in your schedule or questions/concerns.
