Alpine Public Library
The Alpine Public Library is in need of a volunteer to water and provide TLC for its indoor plants that enhance the library experience. Inside there are about 20 – 25 plants both native and non native and a handful of cactus plants outside in pots. Watering and care takes about two hours each week. With expansion and remodeling underway at APL there will be opportunities for a volunteer’s own “green” creative approach for these new and improved areas of the library and for the rest of the library as well. For more information contact Don at don@alpinepubliclibrary.org
Star Parties! Celebrating Dark Skies Week!
Visit Alpine and The McDonald Observatory will host star parties for the community April 5th and 6th at Kokernot Park. The format will be similar to the large star parties at the observatory…lecture followed by telescope viewing stations.
They will also host an open information session on Saturday afternoon April 6th at the visitor center. TGTMN is invited to have a table at the information session along with other community organizations.
Presentations will be given regarding proper lighting guidelines and the harm bright lights do to the environment.
Plenty of advanced training and volunteer opportunities! Astronomers to staff the telescopes, guides to direct participants and members to staff the information table at the visitor center will all be needed.
Details:
Star Parties: Kokernot Park south of the little league field. 7pm – 11pm includes set-up and fold-up. Star lecture and viewing 9pm – 10pm.
Information Session: Visitor Center Pavillion and inside. Saturday 1pm – 4pm. Presentation times TBA.
