SWEC August News
From Kevin Bixby
All SWEC members and supporters—are invited to join in a protest march August 27-31 against the  border wall along the Rio Grande in west Texas. This 15-foot high wire mesh fence would block wildlife access to the river—and fragment wildlife populations on both sides of the border. The accompanying stadium lighting would disrupt wildlife behavior. The fence is part of a fast-tracked plan to build a wall along much of the U.S./Mexico border.  However, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has waived all environmental laws and eliminated any public comment on the proposal. The march will cover the distance of the proposed fence, beginning in Fort Hancock (about 50 miles east of El Paso) and finishing in Sunland Park (NM).You can join the march for any portion, or in its entirety.
