Large-Scale Cultural Resources Investigations in North Texas Lake Projects
Molly Hall
Large-scale archaeological investigations require a variety of methods and out-of-the-box thinking to complete efficiently. These types of projects also result in unique opportunities to study larger landscapes through the lens of the cultural resources that are identified and recorded. In turn, archaeologists are able to use these projects to help us understand the past in a variety of new ways.
Molly A. Hall has contributed to the field of archaeology for 20 years. She has worked on projects throughout the Great Basin, the American Southwest, and the greater Texas region. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology, specializing in Archaeology, at Brigham Young University in 2005 and 2008.
Throughout her pursuit of a Master’s degree, Hall concentrated on worked bone artifacts and the complexities of Fremont social organization. Upon completion of her Master’s degree in 2008, Hall served as an archaeologist at the U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground for two years. In this capacity, she conducted comprehensive surveys, authored meticulous reports, participated in Tribal consultation efforts, and used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for research and mapping endeavors to support Section 106 compliance, showcasing her proficiency in the practical application of archaeological knowledge.
In 2011 she joined the ARC team eventually leading projects in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. During this time, she enhanced her historic artifact analysis and lithic source identification skills. Hall has been the Project Manager and Principal Investigator for the Lake Ralph Hall project since the drafting of the research design in 2017, coordinating simultaneous survey and testing of the lake, pipeline, and mitigation portions of the project, which includes prehistoric and historic sites, a historic cemetery, and mitigation of a National Register Eligible District.
