Hagerman Butterfly Garden Docent – Initial Training 2/25

Finally, with a fully opened spring/summer season ahead of us at the Refuge, the Hagerman Butterfly Garden Docent program is coming back to life.  An information/training session will be held on Saturday, February 25, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, in the HNWR Visitor Center meeting room.  Through this program volunteers will have the opportunity to learn basic facts about butterflies and to recognize the top 25 butterflies seen in the Hagerman garden.  Participants will also know how to report butterfly sightings and visitor numbers from the garden walks.

Volunteers for the docent program are expected to:

• Attend initial training session on February 25
• Attend as many monthly training meetings as possible (dates to be determined)
• Learn and share with the docent team and the public as we expand our knowledge about butterflies and the plants they need to survive
• Sign up to serve as a docent for scheduled Garden Walks (three docents for each date or more as needed; may shadow experienced docents)

Garden Walks are tentatively scheduled for the following dates (adjusted as needed):

• April 1, 15 & 29

• May 6, 14 & 20
• June 3 & 17
• July 8
• August 5
• September 2, 16 & 30
• October 7, 14 & 21
