BioBlitz at Fawcett Wildlife Management Area
This is a great opportunity to help document the biodiversity of a unique and ecologically important landscape. The Fawcett WMA in Palo Pinto County is possibly home of the largest remaining tract of old-growth Cross Timbers forests in Texas, adjacent to the Palo Pinto mountains, with lots of habitat diversity. Participation is limited to 50 volunteers, and completing the interest form is required to be considered
Registration is required, must fill out the interest form. We will prioritize inviting naturalists from the surrounding region, and invitations will be sent out by September 3.

Purpose of this BioBlitz
- Collect comprehensive biodiversity data to support management at Fawcett WMA
- Document species of greatest conservation need (SGCN)
- Support conservation and stewardship of a unique WMA
- Enhance knowledge of the ecological communities and habitat types present
What do participants need to know?
- This BioBlitz spans two days, with flexible participation options
- Surveys will be coordinated by TPWD staff
- No one can venture off solo; must be in groups of at least 3
- Camping is on site, but everything must be self-supplied
- Participation can be self-directed, or a part of a group
- Please bring: water, food, sun protection, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and phone or camera
- Expect rocky terrain, uneven footing, venomous snakes, biting insects, and prickly plants. Heat-related illness is a serious risk – pace yourself and leave early if needed
- (optional) bring canoes or kayaks for aquatic surveys
