We are meeting at Gus Engling WMA on Mon. , April 22nd to botanize with TPWD biologist Taylor Garrison to explore for rare plants. Bring a lunch with you. The meetup time is around 8:45am. This date corresponds with blooming times for the rare Oklahoma Grasspink (Calopogon oklahomensis) and should produce a suite of other unique sandyland and boggy flora. I propose we meet at the ‘Small Acreage Demonstration’ entrance in the middle of the WMA. Here is the google drop point – https://maps.app.goo.gl/vSpagoxSDCxMNL356. If you are looking at google maps, it’s the southern parking lot (adjacent to the pavilion) at the intersection of Anderson County Rd 473 and Engeling Wildlife Permit Rd. From there we can drive up to the savannah restoration and hike our way to plant finding excellence.

*Note: you should be able to check into the WMA at the meeting location. If you are coming on 287 from Corsicana (NW) or Palestine (SE), it might be easier just to check in at the main entrance on 287. From there you can get on the main road (past the check station) and head north (Engling Permit Rd) and you will eventually arrive at the ‘Small Acreage Demonstration’.
