2017 Mushroom 101 Training

Mycologist David Lewis is a home-grown expert on the mushrooms of East Texas. He is a published researcher in fungal taxonomy, who after 45 years of research says, “I’ve just scratched the surface and there’s still a lot to learn.”  As a world-class scientist, Lewis has worked with researchers from across the globe to the Big Thicket developing the study of East Texas mushroom species.  Because of his persistent study, he has had three new species of mushrooms named after him.

On June 17, 2017, David Lewis, in conjunction with CBTMN and others, we met up at the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on FM 727 and then to the Gray-Potter’s Point Community Center for a program on mushroom gathering, sorting and identification.
