September 9th – David Brotherton

Title: “Hawk watching in NE Texas – Look up”

Presenter bio:  David Brotherton is a retired engineer from Eastman Chemical, now teaching Algebra and Advanced Math at Daingerfield Junior High. A lifelong birder, David moved to Texas after graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1981. His professional career included time at Lone Star Steel before joining Eastman in Longview.

David has compiled three Northeast Texas Christmas Bird Counts—Longview, Lake O’ the Pines, and Tenaha (Lake Murvaul)—for decades. He and his wife, Luanne, were among the first ten members of the TOS Century Club and have recorded 100+ bird species in 127 Texas counties. They were also the first birders in Texas to document a Gray-crowned Rosy Finch in the state.

A founding member of NETFO, David has given numerous presentations on birds, including for the Tyler Audubon Society. He and Luanne have two married children, John and Sarah.
