Since 2010, the world has gathered to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night. Together we observe the Moon and learn about lunar science. It’s also a time to celebrate the cultural and personal connections we all have with the Moon.
Due to our unique circumstances this year, instead of only celebrating 1 night, Indian Trail Master Naturalists of Ellis & Navarro Counties will be celebrating the ENTIRE MONTH of September ONLINE.

Moon Phases
Why does the moon change each night?
The Moon has eight phases during it’s 28 day orbit around Earth. The Moon makes no light, instead it reflects the sun’s light. From our view on Earth, we see different amounts of reflected light during the Moon’s orbit.

You can make your own example of moon phases at home using sandwich cookies. The printable for the activity is from the Lunar and Planetary Institute.
