The Texas Kangaroo Rat: Texoma’s Endangered Mammal
**Lifelong Learning Center program – you must pay for the class or have a membership to attend.**
First recognized in 1894, the Texas Kangaroo Rat has been an elusive component of the mammalian fauna of Texoma. Since 1982 the US Fish & Wildlife Service has recognized the imperiled condition of this species but did not possess sufficient information regarding the species to construct a conservation plan. Since 2011 researchers have been studying the status of this species in order to determine a suitable conservation strategy for the preservation of this species. This course will explore the history of the Texas Kangaroo Rat in Texoma, the biological context in which this species lives, and the conservation efforts currently being explored to preserve this species.
