Armand Bayou – Pollinator Celebration 2022

Specific roles that we are in need of help to cover.
Interpretive – Hummingbird Demo @Environmental Learning Center (formerly the Interpretive Building)
Volunteers will demonstrate how hummingbirds contribute as pollinators using items from our learning collection and a demo board with photographs. They will share information and talking points outlined in a program outline provided by Kevin Bauman.

  • 2 volunteers per shift
  • Shift #1: 10am-1pm (Kevin Bauman),  (spot open)
  • Shift #2: 1pm-4pm   (spot open),   (spot open)
  • Materials: Hummingbird specimens, nest, notes from Kevin Bauman, pictures
  • Setup: 1 table
Family Fun – Bee Pollination Game Activity @Albermarle Building
The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate how pollination occurs through the process of nectar and pollen collection. In return for delicious and nutritious nectar, wildflowers use pollinators like butterflies, moths, bees, beetles, wasps, and others to carry their pollen to other flowers, which pollinates them and allows them to produce seeds to grow the next generation. This will take place in front of the Albemarle building. Pollination Demonstration Activity Instructions

  • 2-3 volunteers per shift
  • Shift #1: 10am-1pm (Rose Singh), (spot open),  (spot open)
  • Shift #2: 1pm-4pm  (spot open),  (spot open),  (spot open)
  • Materials: Board with velcro flower, pictures of pollinators, pictures of proboscis, pollination illustrations; Velcro gloves; 3 bowls; Pompoms- 3 different colors; Straws; Instruction outline
  • Setup: 1 table, 1 chair, 1 tent
Family Fun – Match the Pollinator & Plant Activity @McGovern Garden
Volunteers will facilitate a family friendly matching game in the McGovern Garden. The game asks players to match the pollinator with a plant based on clues. Pollinator Match Game Info.

  • 2-3 volunteers per shift
  • Shift #1: 10am-1pm (full), (full)
  • Shift #2: 1pm-4pm   (spot open),  (spot open),  (spot open)
  • Materials: board with pictures so that guests can match the pollinator with the flower
  • Setup: 1 table, 2 chairs
